Coke Zero
I was born in the salmon capital of the world and given the name Peter. My nonna—dual citizen, American and Canadian, seasoned from years on Vancouver Island—saw me at birth and knew instantly: I didn’t fit the mold. Compared to the migrant families around us, the contrast was obvious.
I was raised knowing I didn’t belong to any category.
I’ve spent my entire life resisting category—ambiguous enough to avoid being boxed in, and openly detesting bad cultural ideas.
It served me well.
Only by choosing to become a man of state could I have discovered authorship.
No category would have ever provided the validation required for me to think beyond conventional thought.
The problem with the way Buffett’s message is interpreted is that many take it as an excuse for passivity.
As if one could remain in Bangladesh, keep unhealthy habits, and still “win” simply by knowing business models.
Once they are in their passive state and drifting they have nothing else to do besides performance.
It’s a misunderstanding of both discipline and reality.
