Why does everyone want an imbalanced trade relationship with the United States? Because, for a place supposedly so unequal, no country in human history has scaled GDP per capita for its population on such a massive scale.
It is because of this individual empowerment that affords to purchase from the world and even outsource what they are purchasing part of the global value chain.
Does the global value chain need to be outsourced to this propensity?
No.
Should the United States recapture a lot of the low hanging fruit based on the entitlement demonstrated from their trading partners?
Yes.
Money is an amplifier of who you truly are. When the United States empowered many countries around the world, it revealed who they truly are.
A common rhetoric about China is that its actions are solely the result of its government, while its helpless citizens are brainwashed beyond repair. However, anyone who remembers post-Soviet Russia—which eventually pivoted to Putin—should understand this dynamic about the East.
Now, how can you identify the citizens who are genuinely displaced by draconian rule? They will show up at your doorstep, and that interaction should be treated like a job interview.
If the United States has the means and resources to push innovation to the stars like no one else, it should focus on “insourcing” to achieve this. By doing so, it will unlock greater prosperity, and as a result, the world will naturally gravitate toward it.
Anyone who opposes this message simply wants to shift the balance of power for their own gain.
The issue is that with great power comes great responsibility, and in the small sample size of power they’ve held, you’ve already seen their vision for the world.
Refer to history:
China and India kept the world in the dark ages (no growth), dominating over 80% of the global economy for over 1,000 years prior to 1500.
