Low Standards: Most A+ Setups Get An F
Every trader says the same thing:
“I only take A+ setups.”
It sounds disciplined.
It sounds selective.
It sounds professional.
It’s also one of the biggest lies in trading.
These so-called A+ setups don’t feel as precise or repeatable as what I’m seeing.
Why “A+ Setups” Are Often an Illusion
1. They Are Retrospective
Most A+ setups only look A+ after the move happens.
Before the move:
They look like any other setup
They don’t feel special
There’s no certainty
So what people call “A+” is often:
Outcome labeling disguised as skill
The majority of traders:
Wait for visual perfection
Enter late
Miss the highest-probability window
They Confuse Rarity With Quality
People think:
“If it happens rarely, it must be high quality”
That’s wrong.
A setup can be:
Rare → but low edge
Frequent → but statistically dominant
They Depend on Narrative Stability
“A+ setup” traders need:
Clean market conditions
Clear directional bias
No conflicting information
