Only announce what you can execute - if it takes time - cool.
Have we lost the plot here? Is this actually a peace/trade deal or not? The messaging is so ambiguous that no one can tell what’s happening. If the negotiations need more time, so be it — there’s nothing wrong with that. But you created an artificial deadline by announcing one publicly, and it’s unclear how that helps your position or what strategic brilliance that was meant to demonstrate.
Is it naïve to think things are easier than they are? Absolutely.
But it’s far more naïve to act like complexity automatically equals also wisdom. Most of the time, people overcomplicate things to justify their own confusion, not because the problem actually requires it.
This is the power of nuance. Very are good at it.
