The English-Speaking World Is More Culturally Aligned
Things need to follow a sequence.
It’s easier to reason with English-speaking countries because there is a shared language and a greater tradition of open debate. Even when ideological differences exist, there is still room to argue, negotiate, and challenge one another.
That makes them, hierarchically, more aligned.
For example, a debate between Canada and the United States over EV imports is fundamentally different from concerns about state-backed manufacturing used to flood global markets.
So why would Canada be portrayed as a major trade exploiter when the objective trade deficit data points elsewhere?
Is it because of the debates surrounding the Middle East?
No city outside the United States has been compared to New York more often than Toronto. The two are deeply connected economically, culturally, and linguistically.
That is why the current rhetoric feels so unusual.
